Lynx (Lynx lynx)

Lynxes belong to the family of cats. In the wild lynxes only eat meat from the prey that they have killed themselves. They feed mainly on deer and reindeer, but also hares and birds stand on the menu.

Lynxes have a good camouflage that helps them to melt into their surroundings. The fur is more or less spotted with yellowish brown color that becomes brighter in winter. The tail is short with a black tip. Lynxes can grow up to 70 cm and weigh 15-25 kg.

They are spread throughout Sweden, except in Gotland. They live mainly in forest landscapes, but have also spread to mountain peaks in recent years. They get sexually mature at 2-3 years of age. They have a life span of about 15 years, but in rare cases they can live up to 17 years.
